New physics-based fishing co-op How to Fish hit the digital game storefront Steam just two days ago, and it is already making a splash. After only 48 hours live, indie studio Dazed Games’ frenzied fishing multiplayer game welcomed more than 1 million unique fishmongers to the mix.
Dazed Games co-founders Carl-Vilhelm Johansson and Melvin Olsson confirmed the massive milestone in a message to fans on Steam. “WE HIT 1 MILLION FISHERMEN! THANK YOU ALL! Yes, we’ll be adding more content! Yes, we’ll be fixing bugs!”
In How to Fish, which hosts up to four anglers, players’ aquatic adventures get cut short after a night of careless drinking ends with your crew’s boat washed ashore on a random remote island. Uh-oh.
Once you and your crew get your bearings, it’s time to work your way back home. But being stranded on an island poses problems beyond transportation; in addition to an arduous journey home, players and their shipmates must learn to fish to avoid starving before making it back. Defense is key, too, as players must also defend themselves from the island’s dangerous inhabitants.

You’re marooned, my friend, so you start your adventure with nothing. Thankfully, you can unlock increasingly effective gear by completing challenges, collecting fish of all rarities, taking down frightening opponents, or, if you’re feeling froggy, by placing a few smart bets. Clear each island to get closer and closer to home.
At the time of writing, How to Fish is actively breaking its own playership records. According to Steam data aggregator SteamDB, How to Fish reached a new player peak of 268,101 at 10:40 a.m. ET/14:40 UTC. The game’s previous player peak — 267,761 — was set just five minutes earlier. Currently, How to Fish‘s Steam listing shows an “Overwhelmingly Positive” English-language review average, with more than 4,200 contributing user reviews.
How to Fish is currently Steam’s top-selling and most-wishlisted title, as well as No. 10 on Steam’s daily active users list.
