Swordsmith RPG ‘Bladesong’ unsheaths new free update

Ready to return to the forge? Bladesong, the Early Access blacksmithing RPG from independent developer SUN AND SERPENT and publisher Mythwright, is back with more story-rich swordsmithing in Chapter 3: Fire and Thorns, available now for free on PC via Steam and Epic Games.

SUN AND SERPENT founder David Kuri and the Bladesong team dive into details in a major update synopsis on Steam. “Chapter 3: Fire and Thorns is a brand-new story chapter, introducing a new crew character and gameplay mechanics, opening your forge’s garden, and adding two new sword part sets.”

In Chapter 3, players must fight famine, face riots, and reclaim Astrid from a fearsome fate following a devastating warehouse fire.

Content updates run the gamut; players will meet all-new characters, explore new in-game resources like the forge’s garden and the compendium, utilize snazzy new sword part sets, and relish satisfying quality-of-life improvements that positively impact aesthetics as well as performance.

The powerful new crew member, Ezrae the Fighter, brings brawn and experience that grants smiths the ability to discern optimal weaponry for each and every client’s ultra-specific encounters. Big bads require big blades, I reckon, and it seems Ezrae’s got the in.

Additionally, players will be able to peruse the brand-new Forge Garden, where they can harvest pertinent materials and incorporate special recipes to make mythical, magical hardware. Bladesong‘s helpful new Compendium serves as an in-game encyclopedia of foes past. Use your new resources to craft personalized, creative, and detailed blades that perfectly suit their purpose. By nailing clients’ requests, you’ll build rapport and just might get a return visit that reveals more of their unique story.

In closing, the game’s team encourages players to “[d]ownload the update now and tell us your thoughts in the comments, or join the Bladesong Discord to chat with the devs and a welcoming community!”

About ‘Bladesong’

In Bladesong, players embark on a gritty, life-or-death journey that begins in a lean-to just outside the seemingly impenetrable walls of Eren Keep. The Songs that once serenaded the world are now silent, driving the world you once knew to violence, madness, and other incomprehensible horrors. The massive, foreboding walls surrounding Eren Keep separate the seemingly fortunate souls inside from hordes of desperate humans outside pleading for food and shelter.

Life inside Eren Keep continues as those outside struggle to survive, but the latter is ruled by the unforgiving, merciless Masked King. While the Masked King is seen by some as a savior, soothsayer, or otherwise successful figurehead, the brute’s barbaric rule sows discontent among others, namely those left to die outside Eren Keep.

Desperate to get inside Eren Keep, you find a vacant forge and assume the role of the region’s new swordsmith. But you quickly discover your arrival immediately follows the last swordsmith’s mysterious disappearance.

As you serve locals, learn about goings-on, and develop your sword-building prowess, you’ll quickly realize clients’ gossip is just as valuable as the sword itself. Meet customers’ specific demands and even rub elbows with area gangs to learn more about Eren Keep, its ruthless ruler, and the missing swordsmith.
