‘The Haunting of Joni Evers’ studio announces new supernatural mystery

Indie game developer-publisher Causeway Studios announced that an all-new mystery, The Final Cut of Lilith Cunningham, will be featured as part of the PAX Rising Showcase at PAX West 2026 in Seattle, Washington. This brand-new occult-noir follows Causeway’s hit haunt from last year, The Haunting of Joni Evers, and was funded with the help of private game funding firm Phantom Friends as well as unnamed angel investors.

The Final Cut of Lilith Cunningham is an otherworldly whodunit adventure that draws inspiration from the surreal, dreamlike works of legendary American filmmaker David Lynch and the melancholic melodies of the folk-rock group Lord Huron. Players join the titular protagonist at the center of myriad metaphysical disappearances.

Relying on tactile detective mechanics and world-altering gameplay, players must master head-scratching puzzles with a strange, full-motion video reel titled The City of Dreams. Players will edit the reel, but in doing so, manipulate reality as they know it.

But like the butterfly effect, each and every reel edit will leave Lilith reeling with its consequences. With the help of strategic edits and a “final cut,” Lilith gets closer and closer to solving her daughter’s disappearance.

Left with little to work with aside from an eerie voicemail from her daughter, Lilith must solve puzzles and unpack the mysteries that appear to involve the unsettling Alpine Movie Manor Hotel and Drive-In.

She’s not alone, though; Lilith’s got an unconventional crew at arm’s length, including the omnipresent and malevolent Host, who will muddy your film edits for S’s and G’s.

The Final Cut of Lilith Cunningham is the latest installment in Causeway Studios’ “Worlds Across the Causeway,” an unsettling narrative universe where reality is often stranger than fiction. While Causeway’s titles connect, The Final Cut of Lilith Cunningham is a standalone tale; if you missed The Haunting of Joni Evers, you’ll still be able to follow Lilith’s journey.

If you did play The Haunting of Joni Evers, you’ll likely note some in-game links. If you’re hungry for more, head to Causeway’s website to check out the additional stories and vignettes featured.

“With The Haunting of Joni Evers, I wanted to get players’ feet wet in The Worlds Across the Causeway and establish our approach to deeply human and personal storytelling,” Causeway’s Creative Director Greg Rogers said in a news release.

“The Final Cut of Lilith Cunningham elevates our design ambitions, diving deeper into our metaphorical lake, to tell a truly surreal story with tactile gameplay.

“We hope players spend time drying out on the shoreline to process their choices. Along the way, they’ll need to contemplate how far they’ll go to escape their guilt, and what (and perhaps who) will be left on the cutting room floor.”

The Final Cut of Lilith Cunningham will launch on PC via Steam in 2027. For more information, follow Causeway Studios on BlueSky and TikTok.
