On Friday morning, Nintendo utilized its Nintendo Today! smart-device app to alert fans of an upcoming Direct presentation dedicated to celebrating four decades of its The Legend of Zelda franchise.
Almost immediately after its Zelda-related Nintendo Today! announcement, however, Nintendo issued another push notification to tell users about a second, entirely different Direct showcase that’s slated to air the following morning.
The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct, according to Nintendo’s in-app push notification, will air on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, for about half an hour. “Tune in on September 8 at 7:00 a.m. PT for a livestreamed The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct 9.8.2026 presentation. The presentation will last approximately 30 minutes.”
“To celebrate the series’ 40th anniversary, we will deliver a variety of The Legend of Zelda related information,” reads the presentation’s description on YouTube.
The second Nintendo Direct, which looks to be a general brand presentation, is scheduled for Wednesday, September 9. “Tune in on September 9 at 7:00 a.m. PT for a livestreamed Nintendo Direct 9.9.2026 presentation,” the news update reads. “The presentation will last approximately 45 minutes.”
If you can spare any more room in your schedule, there’s a Nintendo Treehouse: Live broadcast that will immediately follow Wednesday’s Direct. “After the Nintendo Direct on Sept 9, tune in to Nintendo Treehouse: Live | September 2026 to watch gameplay of select titles featured during the Nintendo Direct.”
As far as those “select titles” go, it seems Nintendo is staying mum. At the time of writing, Nintendo’s September 9 Direct presentation appears to be comparatively general; the brand typically specifies the Direct’s scope beforehand.
Nintendo’s most recent Direct showcases, held on August 4 and June 30, respectively, focused on specific titles. Nintendo dedicated 15 minutes to its then-unreleasedSplatoon Raiders in June and 20 minutes to Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave in early August. The latter launches later this month.
Tune into Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct on September 8 and the brand’s general Direct on September 9 via Nintendo of America’s YouTube channel. Leave some wiggle room in your itinerary after the latter, as the Nintendo Treehouse: Live showcase kicks off right after.
Both the Zelda-focused event and the following day’s Direct begin at 7 a.m. PT/10 a.m. ET.
