Ready to turn the first page of a brand-new storybook adventure? Japanese video game developer-publisher NIS America has announced The Grimm Reapress and the Drearytale Monster, an all-new, hand-drawn fable inspired by the works of the Brothers Grimm and other folklore.
Disgaea studio NIS America plans to release The Grimm Reapress and the Drearytale Monster in the West sometime next year; the fantastical storybook RPG will launch on PS5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam.
According to NIS America, The Grimm Reapress and the Drearytale Monster will feature Japanese audio and English subtitles.
In The Grimm Reapress and the Drearytale Monster, players encounter a strange affliction called “Paper Mortis” that transmogrifies unsuspecting patients into picture books and, later, monsters. When this unforgiving ailment affects protagonist Mono’s sister, she must stop at nothing to save her — and they mean nothing.
Our hand-drawn protagonist is joined by a monster named Mär, with whom she forms a pact to search for picture books and make it through the sprawling, puzzle-packed Libratarium to her sister. Mär has a vendetta, however, one against all of humanity that complicates the duo’s journey.
As Mono, traverse hellish environments, solve puzzles, take on mystical bosses, and ultimately save your sister from becoming a literal and figurative cautionary tale. Can you trust Mär long enough to save your sister?

Pre-orders are live now; players hoping to secure copies for PS5, Nintendo Switch, or Switch 2 can head to the game’s website to place their pre-orders. At the time of writing, however, The Grimm Reapress and the Drearytale Monster is not available to follow or wishlist on Steam.
