On Sunday, independent video game studio Akupara Games celebrated its tenth anniversary with its inaugural Akupara Direct, a livestreamed showcase featuring a ton of world premieres, release date announcements for anticipated titles, groundbreaking brand partnerships, and more.
The first-ever Akupara Direct broadcast, emceed by Alpha Beta Gamer, kicked off at 12 p.m. ET on both Twitch and YouTube. Event emcee AlphaBetaGamer led the half-hour Direct, which rolled into a planned, day-long livestream featuring developer play sessions, a special speedrun, and AMAs, among other perks.
Fans can also celebrate by taking advantage of Akupara Games’ ongoing Steam sale. The anniversary-inspired discounts run until Thursday, September 17 at 1 p.m. ET.
Akupara Games’ showcase included some seriously exciting announcements:
- Bonespire: The team behind Cryptmaster is releasing Bonespire, a “whimsical-dark crafting simulation game” where players forge special items, concoct their own potions, trade with visitors, and even try to dechipher ancient scrolls. Where does the magic happen, you ask? Your own wizard tower. Sick, right? But heed my warning: your choices matter, and you’ll watch it all unfold from your tower window. Bonespire has no release date yet, but it’s available to wishlist on Steam now.
- Airframe Ultra: Rain World developer Videocult announced the release date for combat racer Airframe Ultra. Create your own hoverbike racer and race-battle your way through Megacity West when Airframe Ultra comes to PC via Steam on November 5.
- Rain World Anthology Edition: With help from Serenity Forge, Videocult’s hit platformer is getting a physical release. The game’s Anthology Edition will include the base game as well as both the Downpour and The Watcher expansions. The physical versions will launch for PS5 and Nintendo Switch, including a dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. Pre-orders are live, so explore both the Standard Edition and Collector’s Edition to find your best fit.
- Kumitantei: Old School Slaughter: Mango Factory’s Kumitantei: Old School Slaughter is back with a second installment! The next entry in this episodic murder-mystery releases on November 12. Wishlist the game now on Steam.
- AOKAKI: Developeor Concha Indigo and new sub-publisher Kallisti’s Games present AOKAKI, a retro-inspired adventure platformer that follows the titular ronin as he traverses a world full of fearsome insect enemies. “Use a blend of samurai techniques to vanquish your foes. Deflect ranged attacks, parry blows to build up a powerful counter-attack, and strike when your enemies are most vulnerable.” AOKAKI comes to PC via Steam in 2027.
- The Darkside Detective: Backside of the Moon: In today’s Direct, Akupara shared a look at dev Spooky Doorway’s third installment in its The Darkside Detective IP. If you can handle a werewolf or two (?!), a free demo is available now on Steam. The Darkside Detective: Backside of the Moon launches sometime next year.
- Montabi: BE STILL, MY HEART! A free desktop companion from Montabi dev Mankibo is coming, and its bringing powerful, collectible Montabi to your desktop. Despite their distracting cuteness, they’ll actually help you; the Montabi companion includes productivity-aiding features like a to-do list, lo-fi beats to work to, and more.. The free to play game is coming to PC and Mac.
