HYPERyuki: Snowboard Syndicate gets new trailer, demo coming soon

SSX fans, your time is coming, as HYPERyuki: Snowboard Syndicate is slowly but surely approaching its release date.

During today’s The MIX: Fall Online Showcase, developer Wabisabi Games and publisher Acclaim revealed an all-new gameplay trailer showcasing new areas, playable riders, and more. The game is still expected to release next year, but a playable demo will be available on Steam in the near future.

HYPERyuki: Snowboard Syndicate aims to blend the beloved gameplay of SSX and Jet Grind Radio while delivering a modern take on the genre. Players will be able to challenge and complete objectives, race against other players in both single-player and multiplayer, or just enjoy some relaxing, chill snowboarding sessions.

The new trailer showcases some of the more extreme areas the game will take its players, including an active volcano, shimmering ice caves, and even a giant snowboarding kaiju. If you’re looking for some old-school, over-the-top arcade action, then look no further. HYPERyuki has been on my radar for a while, and while games like Denshattack! have somewhat scratched that itch, there’s just something about a stylish snowboard game that speaks to my heart. Maybe it’s because I used to spend my weekends skiing and snowboarding in Maine. Or maybe it’s because I absolutely love the SSX franchise. Either way, this is one of my most anticipated games for next year.

Based on the success of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 HD, there’s clearly a demand for the return of ’90s oriented extreme sports games. It’s something that Marc Anthon Rodriguez, Director of Publishing & Strategic Partnerships at Acclaim, Inc., agrees with.

“The extreme sports games in the golden age of the late 90s & early aughts had something special. The speed, the banger music, the outrageous tricks, all pure fun. HYPERyuki captures that spirit immediately. Wabisabi is building something with its own identity, and every new reveal gets more ridiculous in the best possible way. Acclaim is proud to be part of this journey & can’t wait for players to experience it with a new demo soon.”

You can make the argument too that we’re currently seeing that with a game such as Star Wars: Galactic Racer. There’s no denying that you can feel the inspiration not just from the Nintendo 64’s Star Wars Episode I: Racer, but also the Burnout franchise as well. While it’s “too early to tell” if the game has met sales expectations according to Matt Webster, CEO of developer Fuse Games, it’s resonated well with critics and fans alike since its release earlier this month.

HYPERYUKI: Snowboard Syndicate will be for PC and consoles next year.
