A remastered version of Argonaut Games’ early PlayStation platformer, Croc 2: Kingdom of the Gobbos, is officially available on PC and home consoles, bringing the celebratory month of “Croctober” to a close after weeks of Croc-related news, updates, and surprises on Argonaut Games’ social media accounts.
The Croc sequel, originally released for the OG Sony PlayStation in 1999, follows the titular crocodile as he traverses dozens of stages searching for his missing parents. This new remaster modernizes the titular critter’s zany 3D adventure with improved visuals and several quality-of-life adjustments.
“We are thrilled for players to jump into the next Croc adventure today,” Argonaut Games’ co-CEO Mike Arkin said in a news release. “With updated visuals and modern controls alongside the original’s classic 3D platforming, we welcome fans back to the Kingdom of the Gobbos and introduce new players to this wonderful sequel.”
Argonaut Games founder, Jez San OBE, reflected on the Croc franchise’s history in a statement, addressing the game’s multigenerational cultural impact. “Croc 2 holds a special place in Argonaut’s history, and bringing it back remastered for today’s platforms has been a true labour of love,” he said in a statement.
“Sharing this classic with another generation of players today is something very special.”
What’s new in Croc 2

In Croc 2: Kingdom of the Gobbos, Croc’s quest to save his folks gets complicated when the Dantinis resurrect ruthless ruler Baron Dante, who, with his full chest, vows to destroy the young Croc.
In Argonaut’s remaster, Croc will run into new challenges as well as some classic ones, including the tireless effort to save all Gobbos from incarceration.
Croc’s familiar moveset is back, too, but Argonaut says “jumping and tail-spinning are just the beginning.” According to the studio, Croc can now triple-jump (EUREKA!), giving him a little extra height to reach all nooks, crannies, and ledges.
Our friend Croc will also catch rides on mine carts, speedboats, hang gliders, and unconventional aircraft.
Despite some QoL changes, Argonaut promises the remaster “brings modern enhancements to its traditional platforming action, while preserving all the fun and joy that made the original a big hit.”
Alongside the main game, the Croc2pedia offers fans a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Croc’s sophomore outing. Like the Crocipedia in the first remaster, this in-game digital museum includes never-before-seen development materials, cut content, and the 90-minute Croc2mentary, which features interviews with the original and remaster teams and traces the game’s creative evolution from early concepts to completion.
