Rumors regarding a remaster of Rockstar Games’ classic outlaw RPG Red Dead Redemption 2 have long circulated, but one slight change to the game studio’s website might’ve just prematurely revealed the project.
According to an article from entertainment site Comicbook, one Reddit user’s post to the Red Dead Redemption subreddit cited some new activity on the game’s official website. Commenter/u/Livid-Army-5857 said the game’s official support page now lists “Online migration” as an option. Subsequent replies on the Reddit post confirm the original poster’s report.
Migration capabilities allow players with existing save data to move their game file to a new platform without compromising in-game progress. The minute change may seem benign at first, but a report from GamingBible says Rockstar also made this change ahead of the Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced reveal. While there’s no confirmation from Rockstar regarding changes to support pages or online migration, the mention alone is enough to put a twinkle in the eye of PlayStation 5 players hoping for a port. Currently, PlayStation loyalists can only enjoy the story-rich Western via the PS4.
At the time of writing, mention of online migration has since been scrubbed from the site, but Rockstar’s quick redaction feels like a hush-hush way to quash news shared prematurely.
Between Red Dead lovers’ current hunches and the continued speculations of Grand Theft Auto players, Rockstar Games can’t seem to escape superfans’ fine-toothed combs. With Grand Theft Auto VI on the horizon, however, it’s uncertain whether would-be cowboys will see a remastered or ported Red Dead Redemption 2 anytime soon. Like all Rockstar-related reports, chase this with a handful of salt ’til we hear from the studio (in which case, go nuts).
