Nintendo files copyright for standalone ‘Donkey Kong’ film

Oooooh, banana!

Multinational entertainment brand Nintendo has filed a copyright notice for an all-new Donkey Kong film.

We’re currently just days away from Nintendo’s release of Donkey Kong Bananza, a revolutionary three-dimensional platformer that brings the barrel-bustin’ Kong back to the forefront. The Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive marks the first standalone game for D.K. since Tropical Freeze swung into stores in 2014, and the character’s first 3D platformer since 1999’s Donkey Kong 64.

Well-timed film fanfare and social media conversation could further boost consumer interest in the game, though it’s been pretty well-promoted. The Kong-centered flick’s undisclosed plot may also piggyback on in-game happenings, which may be why fans have yet to hear more regarding the project.

Nintendo may wait to share more until Bananza drops, though with the nature of industry leaks, the brand may have to divulge a little earlier or risk the reveal of more substantial information.

The company often utilizes its Nintendo Today! calendar app to announce headline-worthy news; for brand superfans and movie buffs, the software might be worth a download — even if you delete it post-Bananza bonanza.
