Warhorse Studios, the Prague-based video game label behind last year’s award-winning action RPG sequel, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, is recovering after a rocky Reddit Q&A on Tuesday. In a post to the website’s /r/gaming subreddit, five Warhorse representatives encouraged commenters to, in true Reddit fashion, “ask them anything” when they hold an open AMA — “Ask Me Anything” — on Thursday, April 30. Unsurprisingly, fans quickly took to the comments to share their frustrations about recent studio layoffs and the implementation of generative AI.
“Hi Reddit, it’s been a while (12 years, to be exact!) since our last AMA, and we’re excited to be back,” the post’s description starts. “We’re Warhorse Studios, the developers behind the Kingdom Come: Deliverance games. We’d love to chat about KCD, our development process, life at the studio, and anything from storytelling and design decisions to art direction and content.” After introducing the studio’s five AMA contributors, Warhorse tells readers they’ll be ready to answer questions on Thursday “for a few hours.” Despite 24 hours separating users from the AMA’s official start time, users quickly mentioned the studio’s now-terminated translator. C’mon now, guys. They’re here to talk about Rampart…
“Is your gemini premium subscription gonna translate your next game since you fired the guy that did the English translation,” reads the current top comment, with 846 upvotes. In a reply to the top comment, another Reddit user suggested the studio should’ve anticipated critical fan feedback. “I don’t know whose brilliant idea it was to do a Warhorse AMA on one of the most AI critical subs on reddit shortly after Warhorse was in the news for firing a human in favour of AI, but I bet that person will wish they had swallowed a bottle of Saviour’s Schnapps after this AMA derails so they could load the save they made right before they made the suggestion.”
A third reply jokes that Warhose “even paid to advertise the damn thing on Reddit, I found this thread through an ad 7 hours after it was posted.”
At the time of writing, the post’s comment section comprises a mix of tongue-in-cheek jabs and cutting commentary. “I always dreamt of working as a translator for warhorse studios, do you think i have a chance?” reads one sarcastic reply. Other users are skipping the jokes, using the opportunity to take Warhorse to task. “Is is true that you are replacing human translators with ai? And do you plan to replace more roles in the future with ai?” Another inquiry reads, “Are you guys making an open world LOTR game with Saudi money?”
Warhorse Studios — or /u/WarhorseStudios on Reddit — hasn’t replied to any comments. According to the account’s post history, the company’s last comment was a lengthy reply from producer Martin Klima, dated 11 years ago. The studio could be holding out until that predesignated 8 a.m. start time, but they might have more to answer to by Thursday if they let unanswered questions fester.
This is a developing story. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
