Get those palettes (or flyswatters) ready, painters!

On Tuesday, Nintendo announced its retro art creation game, Mario Paint, is officially available for the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.

The old-school SNES classic, which just celebrated its 33rd birthday on July 14, is playable via the Nintendo Classics library. Mario Paint serves as a whole creative hub, allowing artistic gamers of all kinds to construct digital works using an in-game drawing suite, music composing software, animation tools, and more.

Along with its quirky design tools, the base game featured an assortment of offbeat minigames which players could enjoy using Nintendo’s Super NES Mouse, a peripheral accessory that plugged into the SNES like a controller. Nintendo Switch 2 users hoping to get back to their retro roots can utilize their handheld’s all-new Joy-Con 2 controllers’ mouse functionality for gameplay.

Don’t have the new hardware? Don’t worry — players with the first-gen Switch can use a USB-compatible mouse just the same. Nintendo Switch 2 players can also use the GameChat feature to connect with other creative players via voice, video, or screen sharing.

Whether you’re setting up that easel or sitting this one out, you can still kick the nostalgia up a notch with the game’s memorable soundtrack. Nintendo Music, the brand’s exclusive audio streaming app, connects brand fans with a library of their favorite in-game tunes from new and classic software.

Remember: a Nintendo Switch Online paid membership is required to access any of the Nintendo Classics applications, as well as GameChat and Nintendo Music.
