It has begun. Valve opened the official waitlist for its unreleased Steam Frame VR headset on Monday, an opportunity antsy fans have waited for since the hardware was first announced in November 2025.
The two available models — 256GB and 1TB — include two controllers and Half-Life: Alyx, but, according to the Steam Frame website, “doesn’t come with a dedicated PSU,” which means players have to pick up the Steam Hardware Power Supply Unit separately.
The 45-watt PD3.0 Type-C power supply is shown as “Recommended with Steam Frame.” Uh, yeah. I’d say so.
Good news for Steam Deck users, though: the Steam Deck power supply “or equivalent” will work with the Frame.
The Steam Frame supports VR and non-VR gameplay, as well as streaming. According to Valve, the hardware can handle players’ standard Steam library titles and the 100+ games already on the Steam Frame Standalone Verified list.
The Steam Frame 256GB Kit will cost players $1,059 (around $1,529 Canadian or £889), while the more expensive Steam Frame 1TB Kit costs $1,299 (about CA$1,859 or £1,089).
As far as waitlist selection goes, Valve says it will randomize applicants once the list closes on Thursday, September 17, at around 1 p.m. EDT. Players can join the waitlist anytime before then.
Applicants can expect an email on September 17 informing them of their position, whether that’s on the reservation queue or still on the waitlist. If you’re in the reservation queue, that means one version of the model you signed up for has been reserved in your name.
“As units become available to ship, you’ll receive an email with the option to purchase,” Valve explains. “The first batch of these emails will begin going out on September 18th.”
“If you’ve been added to the waitlist, your place in line is beyond the number of Steam Frames currently available for reservation. We will notify you if you are moved to the reservation queue.”
