Hot off the Kirby-centered Nintendo Direct presentation, the global gaming brand is reportedly holding another next month.
A new post on X (formerly Twitter) from Nintendo insider-leaker SwitchForce claims the brand’s next stream will air in just a few weeks. “Nintendo tried to phone in an emergency about the missing Switch 2 games, but they accidentally dialed 912,” the user wrote before closing the post with a *shrug* emoji. The “912” appears to be a tongue-in-cheek nod to the presentation’s rumored Sept. 12 air date.
While unsubstantiated rumors wouldn’t warrant coverage, it’s the account behind the rumor that’s piquing fans’ interest. SwitchForce, a Nintendo-focused content creator with nearly 18,000 followers, has correctly called several brand announcements ahead of their official release. The user accurately dropped Nintendo Direct details ahead of the brand’s July stream and teased information regarding Nintendo’s Indie World showcase earlier this month.
A new VGC write-up claims sources have confirmed the planned presentation, and, if the Sept. 12 date is set in stone, it would air just one day before the 40-year anniversary of the Super Mario Bros. franchise. Whether Nintendo has something neat planned for the series’ special day, though, has not been confirmed. Best-case scenario, fans hear about special Super Mario Bros.-centered celebrations and get more information regarding the long-awaited Metroid Prime 4 Beyond. Worst-case scenario, we get neither.
We’ve gotten a trio of game-focused Direct presentations since the Nintendo Switch 2 first released worldwide on June 5, 2025 — Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, and Kirby Air Riders — so a Samus-heavy showcase isn’t necessarily a long shot, especially as word circulates that the game has officially received its ESRB rating.
I reckon Nintendo loyalists fall just behind Grand Theft Auto fans in terms of unsubstantiated speculation, and just like pro-Rockstar rumormongers, diligent readers can sometimes find merit-worthy messaging mixed in. Players can’t do much of anything beyond crossing our fingers and making a wish, but if you’ve got a Samus Aran shrine somewhere, à la Helga’s Arnold altar in Hey, Arnold!, please make an extra wish for me.
