TCG Card Shop Simulator is finally getting a tournament mode

As TCG Card Shop Simulator approaches its 1.0 launch, solo developer Ding Shen has been hard at work providing steady updates to the game.

One of which includes the launch of Tournament Mode, available now on PC and Xbox. It works exactly like tournaments do at your local game store. You’ll set your tournament up, offer prizes, set a registration fee, and even set up table numbers. As someone who has done this countless times at his local game store for tournaments, weekly events, and pre-releases, there’s something oddly calming about the pre-event quiet.

Heck, one of my favorite things about TCG Card Shop Simulator is that quiet before the storm when you open the store for the day. It’s almost zenlike, and adding another ritual to your pre-opening duties only adds to that.

Here’s an official rundown on how Tournaments will work:

  • Purchase a Tournament Prize Shelf from the in-game MY DIY store.
  • You can then use the new Tournament app on your in-game phone and control every aspect of your event. This includes event size, prizes, and entry fee.
  • You can stock the Tournament Prize Shelf with a variety of cards and products from your inventory. Play for rare cards, sealed product, you name it!
  • From there, you can watch the magic unfold right before your very eyes!

It’s important to note that this update is not a multiplayer update for the game. Instead, it’s just another method for your NPC customers to interact with each other in your store.

That’s not to say that today’s update is just the new Tournament mode. There’s also Camera Mode, which adds a Camera app to your in-game phone. This allows you to take pictures of tournaments, including capturing that iconic Top 8 photo. You can also take pictures of your store and document all the progress you’ve made since your very first day on the job.

TCG Card Shop Simulator has sold over 3 million copies since launching in Early Access and is on track for its official 1.0 launch. Details for that are not available, but we’re told to “stay tuned.” In honor of today’s update, you can pick the game up on Steam for 20% off until March 26th. TCG Card Shop Simulator is also available on Xbox Game Pass.
