Musical platformer ‘Rhythm Doggo’ dancing onto Steam next year

Ever wondered what it’s like to get the “zoomies”? Rhythm Doggo, a brand-new musical pup platformer, might be as close as we’ll ever get. Announced on Thursday by Swedish solo dev Nicklas Nygren (Nifflas) and Digital Bros Group’s indie-oriented label 505 Pulse, Rhythm Doggo is expected to scamper onto Valve-owned digital game platform Steam sometime next year.

“You wanted to play a video game and just got transformed into a dog,” the game’s Steam description exclaims. “Rhythm Doggo is a classic platform adventure where you play as a dog and make music on the way. Can you go back to your human form?”

“Rhythm Doggo is all about joyful self-expression and musical discovery. Be a good pup, sniff around, help fellow canines, and leap to your own beat.”

In a news release, publisher 505 Pulse says the partnership with Nifflas “marks a new milestone in [its] ongoing mission to empower independent creators who possess a distinct, uncompromising creative voice.”

“Niffas’ [sic] craftsmanship is known to favor organic discovery and atmosphere over rigid tutorials or progression. This new project continues that tradition, offering an honest, artisanal approach to world-building that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly innovative.”

The news release also confirms that Nifflas’ own pup, Hotdog, worked “extensively” with 505 Pulse’s Canine Producer Hiro.

About ‘Rhythm Doggo’

In this arcade-inspired platformer adventure, players “take on the role of a dog and create music as [they] go,” combining strategically timed pauses, sprints, and jumps with the entrancing original soundtrack. Masterfully match movements with the music for a satisfyingly rhythmic experience.

Remember: you’re a dog, so exploration is key. Touch every corner of each stage, ascending to hidden nooks and crannies that accommodate your playable pixel pup perfectly. Your nosiness influences your gameplay; movement alters the accompanying music, making each step a totally novel experience.
