On Friday, KOEI TECMO America and game developer Gust announced Atelier Karia: The Night Kingdom & the Guide of Memories, their latest entry in the beloved Atelier RPG franchise. The title is currently in development, according to a news release, and is expected to launch on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, and PC via Steam sometime early next year.
Atelier Karia: The Night Kingdom & the Guide of Memories takes players back to Aladiss, seen in Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land, but this time, they follow “amnesiac alchemist” Karia, biologist Servio Lektor, and fighter Fina Rozen on a daring quest to uncover the secrets lying within the underworld. Players are also joined by fellow alchemist Yumia Liessfeldt, with whom Karia hones her alchemy skills and works to recover memories lost.
Let her cook! Karia brings with her some culinary mechanics; Karia can have a snack while foraging, allowing players to trigger myriad magical effects. If Karia eats an animal-based ingredient, she might start to look and act the part by picking up some new traits and features. The game’s hybrid combat system fuses turn-based command menus with real-time action, letting reflexive gamers strategize and parry like pros.
Players will be able to utilize the power of alchemy in the wild, too. Gamers will be able to use various ingredients and synthesized items to clear hard-to-reach or hidden areas, complete challenges, and build their bases — a serious selling point for me and other like-minded completionists.

Gust Co. Ltd., first established in the early 1990s, released its inaugural Atelier title, Atelier Marie, in 1997. Cumulatively, Gust has developed nearly 30 Atelier games split across several subseries. The Nagano-based studio, acquired by KOEI TECMO in December 2011, is also behind iconic role-playing adventures beyond its longstanding Atelier IP. Its other projects include the Surge Concerto series, the Nights of Azure IP, and the BLUE REFLECTION games.
