Indie game publisher Akupara Games partners with Pixeljam, Behold Studios

Independent video game publisher Akupara Games announced two new studio partnerships on Thursday, marking the Los Angeles-based label’s latest step in expanding its publishing roster. Akupara’s new partners, Pixeljam and Behold Studios, bring extensive indie arcade catalogs that fans can expect to see on new platforms soon.

Akupara Games now represents arcade-inspired Pixeljam titles like Dino Run DX, Grid Ranger, Last Horizon, Snowball!, and Cheap Golf. As part of its new collaborative endeavor, Pixeljam will bring fresh releases, Cornhole Hero and Dino Jump, both launching on PC via Steam on July 23. Akupara is also representing Behold Studios’ tactical RPG, Chroma Squad, as well as its cosmic co-op survival game, Out of Space.

Akupara Games CEO David Logan spoke about the partnership in a nostalgic statement. “I have fond memories growing up renting games from the video store and grabbing my first NES from a garage sale,” Logan shared in the label’s news release. “When I look at what Pixeljam and Behold Studios built during the renaissance of gaming, I get that same warm feeling. Publishing both of these studios’ titles is an exciting trip down memory lane and an opportunity for an entirely new generation of players to discover them. We can’t wait.”

Akupara Games also shared a pixel-packed partnership announcement via its YouTube channel:

“Get ready for a visual feast with some amazing pixel art games,” teases Akupara Games in the YouTube announcement’s description. “We’re showcasing a variety of new games that are sure to become some of the best indie game titles you’ve played in a while. New upcoming games that combine a retro aesthetic with modern gameplay? Yes, please!”

Indie game publisher Akupara Games, formed by Logan in 2016, is perhaps best-known for Spooky Doorway-developed whodunnit, The Darkside Detective, Videocult’s atmospheric adventure, Rain World, and à la mode games’ woozy survival horror, Sorry We’re Closed.

Budget-friendly game collections are available now on Steam. Pick up seven games in the “Pixeljam x Akupara” bundle for just under $23, or two titles in the “Behold x Akupara” bundle for under $8. Be sure to follow Akupara Games, PixelJam, and Behold Studios on social media to stay connected. If you’re a Steam user, follow all three labels to receive updates as they’re announced.
