Square Enix has released a brand-new trailer for Final Fantasy XIV: Evercold, the upcoming expansion for Final Fantasy XIV Online, slated for release in January 2027. In addition to the all-new, five-minute teaser, Square Enix also announced that the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy XIV will hit handhelds on Tuesday, August 4. Final Fantasy XIV Patch 7.55 will also launch this Tuesday, July 28, and include new Occult Crescent, Phantom Weapons, Inconceivably Further Hildibrand Adventures, and Allied Society quests.
Square Enix Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida teased the new content during the keynote address at the company’s annual Final Fantasy Fan Festival in Berlin, Germany. The event is live now and will run through the remainder of the weekend. Square Enix held its stateside FFXIV Fan Festival 2026 in Anaheim, California earlier this year.
The Final Fantasy Fan Festival reveals don’t stop there. Square Enix also shared an extended teaser trailer for Evercold, offering a more intimate look into the world of the Fourth and all that awaits Warriors of Light. Check out the extended Evercold teaser trailer:
During the event, Yoshida revealed the first Evercold job, “Bastion,” a dual greatshield-wielding main tank. Bastion’s shields, called “Skyltborg,” boast mind-bending abilities that allow players to generate shields, fire heavy artillery, and more. The 90-second teaser does just that, showing sick new shields and slick combat but offering virtually no substantive details beyond the brief video description.

Square Enix shared more Evercold details beyond the new job reveal. According to the company’s latest news release, developers are working to implement widespread in-game changes through “auto content balancing.” Square Enix says opponent levels and difficulty will more closely align with players’ skill levels, and players will be able to complete challenges in any order without compromising main scenario progression.
Fan freedom further expands with the addition of Character Action Skins. Players can utilize this feature to apply alternate animations and better personalize existing General actions like Teleport and Warp. Support for additional skins, including job actions, will come as part of future updates. Square Enix is also expanding character customization offerings, giving players more creative freedom to make their character stand out. Explore new color options using the new color picker tool, meticulously tinker with facial features, maybe add a smoky eye — the ball’s in your court.
Yoshida also unveiled a new teaser for EVANGELION – Ghosts of Desire, Square Enix’s alliance raid series revealed back in April. As part of the reveal, Yoshida shared that acclaimed director and animator Mahiro Maeda will join the project as a special guest artist and designer.
Yoshida was also joined by Final Fantasy VII Remake director Naoki Hamaguchi to reveal “Beyond the Lifestream,” a new Final Fantasy VII-themed 8-player raid series that players will challenge in Evercold.
The new Evercold Collector’s Bundle was also unveiled, which includes the Evercold Special Art Box, Expertly Crafted Reaper Figure, Ethos Metal Keychain, Köttr Mini Plush, and Tapestry of the Fourth. The digital Collector’s Edition is also included, and features three in-game items: the Crystal Skyltborg bastion weapon, Vallhallar Odin mount, and Entreat Crystal emote.

Final Fantasy XIV launches on Nintendo Switch 2 on Tuesday, August 4, but pre-orders are live now via the Nintendo eShop. Square Enix previously shared that the game’s Switch 2 version will require its own monthly subscription independent from any Nintendo Switch Online membership, but says “there will be an approximately one-month free subscription period on Nintendo Switch 2” to “ensure server stability.”
Final Fantasy XIV is available now for PC via Steam, XBOX Series X|S, PS4, and PS5. Wanna watch the whole Fan Festival keynote? Find the presentation on YouTube via the Fan Festival 2026 in Berlin Day 1 livestream.
