HEY, LISTEN! Nintendo held a special The Legend of Zelda-focused Direct showcase on Tuesday to celebrate the iconic video game series’ 40th anniversary. Nintendo first announced the packed presentation last week alongside a second Direct, scheduled to air tomorrow, September 9, at 7 a.m. ET/10 a.m. PT.
Tuesday’s half-hour Nintendo Direct, broadcast on the brand’s YouTube and Twitch channels, included a ton of announcements, including word of long-awaited The Legend of Zelda remakes, special in-person events, merch reveals, a look at the live-action movie’s logo, new app features, and more.

The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition Nintendo Switch 2 system
Nintendo is launching a celebratory Nintendo Switch 2 console to commemorate the Legend of Zelda’s four-decade run. The hardware drop, perfect for longtime and brand-new fans alike, also includes anniversary editions of the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller (with or without a display stand) and a Nintendo Switch 2 carrying case with screen protector. All products bear the series’ ultra-recognizable Triforce design.
Players can also expect Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo figures, capable of unlocking unique, retro-inspired items in-game, available via retailers in 2027.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake
During today’s presentation, series producer Eiji Aonuma shared the very first look at gameplay from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, which is confirmed to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 handhelds on November 5, 2026.
Nintendo says Link’s iconic late-nineties adventure features “completely overhauled visuals, fully voiced cutscenes, expanded character dialogue, symphonic orchestral music, reworked camera and movement controls, and more,” and will resonate with the newest generation of gamers.
The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Concert series
The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Concert series will kick off next year, bringing The Legend of Zelda’s classic tunes and tones to audiences around the globe. The official Japan tour begins in Tokyo in January, while the North American tour starts in Chicago next February. Fans in Europe can catch the tour when it begins in London next April. Gamers in Australia should watch out for the tour’s start in Melbourne next May.
The Legend of Zelda film opens in theaters in April 2027
The Legend of Zelda, after what feels like a century of teasing, will finally launch in theaters globally next year. Nintendo, Arad Productions Inc., and Sony Pictures Entertainment, Inc.’s upcoming flick is “based on the stories, ideas and concepts of The Legend of Zelda that have built up through 40 years of games,” but features a totally-new story.
Nintendo releasing ocarinas to celebrate The Legend of Zelda anniversary
Nintendo will release two ocarinas compatible with its Ocarina of Time remake — one playable, one electric — later this year. The latter, from gaming peripheral brand HORI, plays notes and songs with the press of a button.
In the new The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, players can “simply hum” one of Link’s ocarina melodies within a reasonable range of the Nintendo Switch 2 system’s built-in microphone, and he’ll start playing in-game.
The Legend of Zelda: Other Nintendo Direct announcements
Use Nintendo’s dedicated Switch or Nintendo Today! smart-device applications? You’ll find some new features when Ocarina of Time launches. ZELDA NOTES will be compatible with the remake, just as it’s compatible with Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.
This note-taking feature will help “players track their adventure, challenge them to find in-game locations using hint images, let them play a virtual ocarina, take a daily quiz with over 2,000 total questions and more.”
Starting tomorrow, Nintendo Today! users can collect The Legend of Zelda-inspired digital cards daily. The app’s themed calendar animations will now feature games throughout the treasured series, too.
LEGO fans can pick up a The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time set featuring Link & Epona when it launches next spring. The huge, 1,750-piece collectible display model for adult builders will join Hasbro’s Legend of Zelda Electronic Master Sword — reportedly over two feet long — on shelves in Spring 2027.
