Haunting early 2000s-inspired horror game lily’s world XD is out now on PC via Steam, ready to dish out a heavy dose of nostalgic novelty and existential dread just ahead of spooky season.
In lily’s world XD, a puzzle project from content creator SonderingEmily and growing indie game publisher Kwalee, players peruse the PC of awkward teen girl Lily after she mysteriously vanishes. Despite her meek appearance, however, Lily hides a secret only her laptop can unlock. Dig through past blog posts, outdated convos, and older photo albums to uncover the sinister truth about the titular teen.
To absolutely no one’s surprise, teen girl Lily doesn’t approve of your snooping. Try to keep your file exploration under wraps before those responsible for her disappearance come for you next…
“Lily was an ordinary teenager in 2004,” starts the game’s Steam description, “and you just found her laptop. Read her diary, message her friends, and piece together what happened to her before it’s too late. But you’re not the only one with access to her computer… A fourth wall-breaking psychological horror experience featuring LilyPichu[.]”

“I have spent years making this game,” the developer shared in a Steam update, “and it’s so exciting to be able to share it with the world. lily’s world XD has brought me so many incredible opportunities, and I’m so proud of my achievements.

While lily’s world XD touches on teen friendship, self-esteem, body image, and the sometimes-isolating world wide web, the game’s developer does warn of some potentially triggering content. The horror game’s Steam listing features a Mature Content warning:
“This game contains a character who deals with disordered eating, emotional manipulation, and body dysmorphia. If you are someone who struggles with these issues, please think carefully before playing. There are also sudden computer effects, which are not recommended to those with photosensitive epilepsy. For those streaming the game, please visit the settings upon launch.“

lily’s world XD is available now on PC via Steam for $11.99, but early buyers can take advantage of a special post-launch markdown that brings its already-low price down to just $9.59. Steam users can enjoy this discount ’til it expires on September 24.
