CD PROJEKT RED released its long-awaited The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered yesterday, and the folkloric franchise expansion is already reaching record heights.
New figures from Steam data aggregator SteamDB show more than 120,000 unique users currently playing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered, setting a new playership record over 11 years after the original game’s release.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the third entry in CD Projekt’s hit The Witcher series, first launched on PS4, XBOX One, and Windows PC in May 2015. Its success led to a Nintendo Switch port in October 2019, with PS5 and XBOX Series X|S releases in December 2022.
The high-fantasy open-world RPG follows protagonist Geralt of Rivia as he searches for his adopted daughter, Ciri, as she flees the Wild Hunt.
The all-new remaster “modernizes the acclaimed role-playing game with a range of upgrades and enhancements,” including visual improvements, quality-of-life adjustments, an updated Photo Mode, and accessibility settings, among other welcome changes.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered is already dominating Metacritic.
Not even a full day after its launch, the remaster has reached a remarkable 94/100. At the time of writing, the remaster is No. 1 on Metacritic’s “Best Games This Year” chart. Sektori takes No. 2 (94), while Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter (91) and Big Walk (91) take No. 3 and No. 4, respectively.
It’s Tuesday around noon in my neck of the woods, and CD PROJEKT RED’s remaster is already raking in rave reviews and breaking records. With early numbers like these, I’ve got a feeling we’re only seeing the start.
The game’s sky-high concurrent player counts will likely climb even higher as we approach the end of the traditional workday and the weekend.
Right now, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered is No. 12 on Steam’s list of top-selling games and No. 74 in daily active users (DAUs). It’s also No. 74 on Steam’s most-wishlisted games list.
