Monster Hunter Rise jumps to No. 2 on Capcom’s ‘Platinum Titles’ list

Publisher Capcom’s “Platinum Titles” list, which lists video game sales by volume, currently shows Monster Hunter Rise at No. 3 with 19.30 million units sold.

“In the home video game market, sales of more than one million units is the generally accepted standard for a major hit,” Capcom’s Platinum Titles webpage explains.

“Since Capcom’s inception, we have created many of these titles, including Street Fighter and Resident Evil. With over 100 titles that have sold more than one million units, Capcom stands alone in the video game industry. This page lists these hit titles by sales volume, and includes box art, video, screenshots and other information about these games.”

However, this list hasn’t been updated since June 30.

Once adjusted to reflect new sales figures, Monster Hunter Rise jumps to No. 2, demoting 2019’s Resident Evil 2 (19.70m) down one spot.

Capcom’s bestselling title, Monster Hunter: World (2018), leads the pack by a long shot. The standard game has sold more than 22.40 million units, with an asterisk noting that the figure doesn’t reflect Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Master Edition sales.

Accounting for those sends sales up to an eye-watering 30.40 million units.

Resident Evil 7 Biohazard (2017) and Monster Hunter World: Iceborne close out Capcom’s top five Platinum Titles, with 18.40 million units and 16.70 million units sold, respectively.

“Rise to the challenge and join the hunt,” starts the game’s Steam logline. “In Monster Hunter Rise, the latest installment in the award-winning and top-selling Monster Hunter series, you’ll become a hunter, explore brand new maps and use a variety of weapons to take down fearsome monsters as part of an all-new storyline.”

Monster Hunter Rise is available on Steam now for $3.99, a whopping 90 percent discount. Now’s the time to join the nearly 35,000 English-speaking Steam users who’ve given the game a positive review. Act fast, though, because this deal disappears this Thursday, October 8.

Of course, Rise is also available for Nintendo Switch. The game’s digital edition is currently listed on Nintendo’s eShop for $4.99, a deal that expires on Friday, October 16.
