Car Park Capital launches in Steam Early Access

Retro parking lot-management game Car Park Capital hit Steam Early Access on Friday, bringing classic isometric, low-poly visuals back to the city-builder genre — this time with a hypercapitalist twist.

Car Park Capital, developed by Hilkojj Interactive (Hilko Janssen) and published by iconic strategy-sim studio MicroProse, puts players in charge of designing, constructing, and managing parking lots and structures throughout a growing town.

“The car industry needs you to design and build the greatest car parks that simple town life hasn’t seen before,” reads the game’s Steam logline. “Introduce the need for car commuting and turn neighborhoods into car parks! Use propaganda to convince people to pay you for it. Fight people that see through your oily business.”

Players will “[d]rill for oil, put up pro-car billboards, build cow farms to fulfill people’s need for fast-food, send riot police to protesters, build giant Toilet Drive Thrus,” and more, all set to the game’s retro original soundtrack. The OST, made by composer Kent Kercher, utilizes “actual 90s Synthesizers.”

After Car Park Capital‘s launch, developer Janssen thanked fans in a Steam update. “Without you, this passion hobby project would never have turned into my full time job. I hope you all have great fun! This is not the end, though! I look forward to your feedback and I’m excited to work on updates on the road to the full version!”

I discovered Car Park Capital on TikTok, of all places, during a nightly doomscroll sesh. The particular video that caught my attention was posted in July 2025 and touted the game’s new publishing partnership. The video has since been viewed more than 600,000 times.

Car Park Capital‘s charming, nostalgic visuals, evocative of early RollerCoaster Tycoon entries, captured other TikTok users’ hearts, too. “god i’m so excited for this,” commented Australian content creator Caleb Finn. “the art style is so peak,” wrote another commenter.

While Car Park Capital launched into Steam Early Access, the development state won’t last forever. Janssen touched on the game’s development timeline on Steam.

“Car Park Capital will benefit from player feedback and give the team the opportunity to engage with, adapt and adjust the game and future content based on the feedback on the path to 1.0.”

Janssen expects Car Park Capital to stay in Steam Early Access for about “10 months with a plan to transition to 1.0 in the Summer of 2027.”

Buy Car Park Capital on Steam now for $15.29, down 10 percent from the regular retail price of $16.99. This post-launch discount ends on October 23. Follow developer Hilko Janssen on Bluesky and join the game’s dedicated Discord server to connect with other players.
