GTA VI reportedly coming to PC early next year

Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto VI will virtually stop the world turning when it releases on PlayStation 5 and XBOX consoles next month. The game’s console-only launch has long had PC players speculating about when they’ll hit the streets of Leonida, but a new GamesBeat report says PC gamers will join Jason and Lucia sooner than expected.

According to GamesBeat, Rockstar will release Grand Theft Auto VI on PC within “the first three months of 2027.” This means PC gamers can expect to play the game before Q1 2027 closes on March 31.

GamesBeat’s Alexander Lee says release date confirmation comes from “four industry sources familiar with the studio’s plans, all of whom requested anonymity to avoid damaging business relationships.”

The alleged Grand Theft Auto VI PC release date contrasts with the studio’s past releases, as studio Rockstar Games has historically taken its sweet time on PC ports.

Grand Theft Auto VI hit PCs nearly two years after its original PlayStation 3 and XBOX 360 drop; GTA V launched on PS3 and XBOX 360 on September 17, 2013, but didn’t land on PC ’til April 2015.

Red Dead Redemption 2 released on PS4 and XBOX One systems on October 26, 2018, but its PC port didn’t launch until November 5, 2019. Despite the gritty Western’s then-historic critical and commercial performance, PC players waited over a year to join the Van der Linde gang.

Players aren’t the only ones to benefit from a speedy PC port. The move makes financial sense, as consumer tech has changed considerably since the mid-2010s.

PC players now outnumber their console counterparts. According to Forbes, PC players currently make up around 42 percent of the GTA V playerbase, with PlayStation and XBOX user counts trailing at 35 percent and 23 percent, respectively. These figures are largely driven by still-high player activity in GTA Online.

Rockstar’s pulling out all the stops on promo. On Wednesday, November 18 — the eve of GTA VI‘s long-awaited launch — the game studio is teaming up with the NBA’s Miami Heat for “A Night in Vice City,” a themed game night that will transform the team’s home court into Vice City. The team will don branded jerseys and play on an updated court.

The NBA announced the collab in a news release. “For one night only, the HEAT trade Miami for Vice City,” the team’s X (formerly Twitter) post says. “Join us on November 18, when Vice City hosts the Milwaukee Bucks on a never-before-seen court, wearing an all-new uniform.”
