‘Hitman: The Board Game’ fully crowdfunded in 30 minutes

On Thursday, tabletop label MOOD Publishing kickstarted its crowdfunding campaign for HITMAN: The Board Game, a competitive, Clue-like board game developed alongside HITMAN: World of Assassination studio IO Interactive. The studios’ crowdfunding endeavor went live early Thursday exclusively on Gamefound, and in just 30 minutes and 1 second, HITMAN: The Board Game met its €100,000 goal (around $117,000).

At the time of writing, contributions are still pouring in, with more than 550 backers investing a combined €130,000. This specific donation benchmark, the title’s Gamefound listing says, unlocks one “Personal Restrictions Card Pack” for each player. Other perks await crowdfunding contributors, including a commemorative 47-hour coin for those who back the project within its first 47 hours.

“At IOI, we’ve always seen Hitman as a sandbox of possibilities,” Rasmus Nautrup Jensen, HITMAN: World of Assassination Executive Producer, explains in a new press release. ”MOOD Publishing has managed to translate that flawlessly into a physical board game. It has been an incredibly fun and creative development and playtesting experience. It truly captures the DNA of the IP perfectly: it’s creative, it’s fun, and it’s highly addictive. Especially when you get to the target before the other agents! We hope the players will enjoy it as much as we do.”

HITMAN: The Board Game, a 1-4 player competitive assassination tabletop adventure, features four iconic series locations and eight tantalizing targets pulled right from HITMAN: World of Assassination. Channel your inner Agent 47 as you compete against your friends (now rivaling agents) to reach and ultimately take down big-time targets. Lay low, clear security checks, and quickly adapt to changing environments by using nearby items to your advantage. Eliminate your target and make your daring escape to take the win.

With various cards at arm’s length, players can skillfully skirt guards, create distractions, infiltrate high-security areas, utilize disguises, and more. Each target appears in locations via a modular sandbox setup, so no two sessions are alike. Though the project is now funded, all supporters can still secure some sweet swag. Those who follow the campaign pre-launch will receive a free gift; backers can secure the Elusive Gift Box, “which will grow in content as the campaign expands,” the publisher promises.

Additionally, loyal players can enjoy a “series of engagement unlocks” that reportedly reward their participation. “Selected days will reveal additional content, which will be poured into the Elusive Gift Box.”
