Ahead of Dave the Diver‘s new “In the Jungle” DLC expansion, released on June 18, game studio MINTROCKET and independent film company The Asylum released an all-new — and delightfully campy — live-action trailer featuring familiar, now-human faces from the RPG-management sim. The project was written and directed by American director Anthony C. Ferrante of Sharknado fame and debuted during the livestreamed PC Gaming Show on Sunday.
“Bringing the insanely creative world of Dave the Diver into live action was an amazing experience,” Ferrante said in a news release. “The game itself is fun, crazy, silly and action packed and to be able to capture the essence of the world and these fantastic characters in close partnership with Mintrocket was an incredible experience. We really hope fans of Dave the Diver enjoy the jungle adventure we’ve prepared for them.”
“We’ve always wanted to try creating unconventional content, so we decided to reach out to The Asylum as a lot of the development team are big fans of their films. It was great to work with The Asylum to bring our characters to life in a fun new form and ignite interest in the countdown to launch,” shared MINTROCKET head Jaeho Hwang.
About the new Dave the Diver ‘In the Jungle’ DLC
Studio MINTROCKET bills its “In the Jungle” downloadable content as “the largest [Dave the Diver] content expansion to-date.” In this adventure, Dave and the gang explore the lush jungle environment of Utara. Players will traverse new terrain, find never-before-seen wildlife, rub elbows with locals, and face a few run-ins with some not-so-friendly neighbors.
The new “In the Jungle” DLC contains about 10 hours of content, and, according to the studio, also features “new encounters and mechanics that branch boldly away from the base game and previous DLCs.”
Among the most notable differences, perhaps, is the addition of the Bancho Grill restaurant. The new eatery exclusively serves fully-cooked freshwater fish. “Dave can now move freely throughout the Grill,” the team reveals, a mechanic that contrasts with Dave’s limited movement in the base game’s sushi spot. Gamers will also serve customers across several seating areas rather than at one sushi bar. “In The Jungle” also adopts a “free-flowing isometric view” and a “new real-time progression mechanic.”
