Mini Motorways invites players to pick new city map

Beloved minimalist road construction sim Mini Motorways is putting development decisions into players’ hands. In a new post on Steam, members of the Mini Motorways crew revealed that players will be able to choose the next city to join the game’s expansive location library. “We’re always excited when we get to invite our players to the table to collaborate,” the exciting message starts. “As a part of our busy 2026, we’d love to hear from you which of these cities would serve as a worthy addition to Mini Motorways, both beautiful enough for our luxe art treatment and challenging enough to keep players on their toes!”

Players are able to select one of four predetermined locations:

  • Auckland, New Zealand: Located in the Southern Hemisphere, this coastal metropolis is built on an active volcanic field, and harbors two distinct major bodies of water – the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean.
  • Lima, Peru: Known for its rich history and vibrant food culture, this South American desert city is the second-most populous on the continent, and has multiple rivers flowing through it.
  • Singapore, Singapore: with its unique geography and dense urban development, Singapore is one of the world’s economic and travel hubs, home to over six million people.
  • Vienna, Austria: the famous rivers Wien and Danube split the city of Vienna, known for its imperial heritage, opera house, and reputation as the City of Music.”

“Our choices this time span four separate continents, and all have made it close to the top of our list in the past,” the Mini Motorways team explains. “We couldn’t make up our minds, so we decided our final lineup won’t be complete without your help.” This fan-led endeavor is just one small part of the studio’s lofty goals for 2026. In February, the team announced players would head to Cape Town to kick off the game’s “2026 roadmap.” The update brought more than a Cape Town map; devs addressed bugs, improved performance, added new achievements, challenges, and more.

According to the studio, in-game commuters can anticipate three more substantive updates this year — a new map in June, a surprise in September, and one more map in December to close out the calendar year.

Mini Motorways, the spiritual successor to Dinosaur Polo Club’s 2015 subway builder Mini Metro, released on Steam in July 2021 to generally positive reviews. At the time of writing, Mini Motorways has nearly 16,000 player reviews and an “Overwhelmingly Positive” average rating. “Mini Motorways is a strategy simulation game about designing the road map for a growing city,” explains the Mini Motorways Steam blurb. “Build a traffic network, one road at a time, to create a bustling metropolis. Redesign your roads and place your motorways to get everyone where they need to go. How long can you keep the city moving?”
