Over the weekend, Square Enix and Disney & Pixar Games announced that Kingdom Hearts 4, the fourth entry in the classic Disney universe-set adventure game franchise, will launch sometime in late 2027. The release date window was confirmed during D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event 2026 in Anaheim, California, alongside news of an original Kingdom Hearts-inspired anime series coming to Disney Channel and Disney+.
The new series is currently in development in collaboration with Square Enix creatives, including publisher vet Tetsuya Nomura. Nomura has worked for Square Enix since the early 1990s and donned myriad hats in the three decades
The D23 presentation also included an all-new extended game trailer, which revealed Kingdom Hearts 4 would feature new in-game stages inspired by Disney and Pixar’s Coco.
Additionally, a Deep Dive panel held at D23 on Saturday celebrated one quarter-century of the beloved Kingdom Hearts franchise — yes, really — with behind-the-scenes looks at development, creative processes, and contributions from voice actors like Haley Joel Osment, the English-speaking voice behind franchise protagonist Sora.
The Oscar-nominated American actor has lent his voice to the character since the series’ inception in 2002, contributing to more than a dozen Kingdom Hearts projects.
